Daniel was a Typical High School Kid

I watched this video and my heart sank. Imagine then, how the mother/family and the neighbour felt. The mother says after her son used a shotgun on himself, the sight she came across was “horrific”. I cannot image what she has been through, and no doubt, what she continues to go through. As a mother myself, I pray my son is never a subject of bullying, nor will he ever become a bully himself.

Bullying needs to stop.

One day, Daniel received a text from a bully that said, “Why don’t you take one of your precious guns and do the world a favour and go kill yourself.”

Daniel replied, “You won’t have to worry about me anymore. I’m going to go home and kill myself.”

The bully texted back, “Put up or shut up.”

    • It really is sad. It makes me so angry that some are pushed to the point they feel the need to take their own lives as a way out. May Daniel and the others rest in peace.

  1. This mother needs to post the name of that fucking bully. That’s what needs to happen. People ignore these bullies and they are never taken to task…even after something horrific like this. They should be prosecuted and made to wear a sign around their necks that say “I bullied somebody into killing themselves.”

  2. It’s heartbreaking that a child had to go through that! Bullying is such a big problem, and I hope people start to recognize it and take it seriously before it creates more tragedies like this!

  3. It’s sad that bullying is still rife these days, especially now we are a society that is less racist, sexist, homophobic etc. Obviously it still goes on but for some people, it’s easier to be who they really are, more than ever. Like you, I don’t want my kids to be on either side of bullying. The unfortunate thing in US is that guns are so readily available. Suicide obviously happens anywhere in the world but if guns were not so readily available, perhaps more people would change their minds. Maybe there wouldn’t be so many murders and mass killings. Sorry to veer off subject. In my kids’ school anti-bullying and acceptance is a big thing and is drilled into them from an early age. Perhaps there needs to be more of a message world wide. We should not be tearing each other to bits. Nobody should have to feel like they need to end their life because someone has pushed them to it. I hope the bully is held accountable for his actions.

    • Thank you for your comment. I had noticed how available guns are in the US and very surprised. It is not something I would keep in my home. I just couldn’t – especially having a curious little boy around. Some people seem to want to bully others because it makes them feel better about themselves. How? I do not know. But somehow, they get a kick out of it. It’s great to hear about anti-bullying and acceptance in your children’s school; I think every school needs to have this as part of their policy. I also think parents should also take this stance at home, because I believe the first thing children learn comes from the home/their environment. We may never know what happened to the bully, but I agree with you. Let’s hope he will.

  4. What that boy went through was horrific, and it happens all the time. I wonder how many times Daniel’s friends or parents contacted the school and informed his teachers, administrators, and counselors what was going on. Targets of bullying need advocates….their friends, their families, and every bystander who sees what happens. My drama troupe did anti-bullying workshops at our area elementary and middle schools for seven years, and we learned a lot!

    • I cannot believe how often this happens. What happened to children being children? I think every school should have sessions on anti-bullying. Start teaching children at a young age would be a start.
